WRFM-Guided Rigless Well Stimulation in a Complex Dual String Completion Delivers 137% Production Increase in the Niger Delta
Presentation title, as submitted
Event overview
SPE Lagos Section 61 hosted its Monthly Technical Meeting with an HSE briefing, executive remarks and a high-impact technical presentation, followed by networking and cocktails.
The session closed with the presentation of an honorarium to the speaker and a vote of thanks, reinforcing the collaborative spirit within the SPE Lagos professional community.
The technical case
The case study centred on the OKOS-04L well in the Oki-Oziengbe Field (OML 148/111), which had shed 71% of its production over eighteen months.
Diagnostic work (Pressure Transient Analysis alongside Nodal Analysis) returned a skin factor above 53. The team traced that damage to three mechanisms acting together: emulsion formation, wettability alteration and fines migration.
Key learning points
Microemulsion technology
Microemulsion was selected for its dual capacity to disrupt water-in-oil emulsions and restore the rock's preferred wettability state: one chemistry addressing two of the three damage mechanisms.
Optimised stimulation design
Laboratory testing settled on a 50:50 blend ratio with a 24-hour soak. The field sequence ran a microemulsion pre-flush, then matrix acidisation to dissolve clays, then a nitrogen lift to restore natural flow.
Risk mitigation in complex completions
The well carried an Internal Gravel Pack and an existing 11% water cut. Injectivity rates were controlled to avoid stimulating the water leg, and fines stabilisation agents were carried in the microemulsion.
Exceptional results
Production rate rose 137%, water cut fell from 11% to 2.5%, and flowing tubing head pressure recovered to 860 psi, all without a rig on location.
